Life style and exercise
Engage in exercise or physical activity (e.g. sport, walking, gardening)
Practice good sleep hygiene (habits that promote healthy sleep include maintaining a regular sleep pattern, improving your sleeping environment, relaxing your mind, avoiding drugs) Maintain a regular sleep schedule – get enough sleep at night and have a bedtime and rising time that varies little from day to day
Do something you enjoy
Do something you would usually enjoy, even if you don't feel like it
Try to remain involved in purposeful activities for a small part of every day
List strategies that have worked in the past against depression, use them
Engage in an activity that gives you a feeling of achievement
Enlist a trusted friend to help you get out and about or do activities
Make sure you get out of the house for at least a short time each day
Engage in a leisure activity (e.g. reading, watching TV, cooking, crafts)
Do an activity that distracts you from negative thoughts
Give yourself some basic self-care goals for the start of each day (e.g. getting up and having a shower, eating breakfast, getting dressed into outdoor clothes even if you don't plan on going out)
Avoid overworking
Do something to care for your physical appearance
Avoid activities that tend to make you stressed or depressed
Spend time with pets or animals
Take time out to focus on self-care and to indulge yourself
